Celebrating Collaboration of Community and the Workplace

On August 7, 2018, La Crosse, Wisconsin was awarded the coveted Well City USA designation by the Wellness Council of America (WELCOA). Over the course of 3 years, we have had the privilege to partner with 21 employers representing over 19,000 employees worked to adopt and implement WELCOA’s well workplace process. All 21 employers achieved a prestigious Well Workplace Award designation, joining the ranks of America’s healthiest organizations. Therefore, by engaging more than 20% of the region’s working population, the La Crosse businesses earned the proclamation of Well City USA. The project was led by local business and community leaders who are equally committed to the health and growth of the La Crosse community.

When we built our strategic plan back in 2015, our goal was to encourage and assist La Crosse County worksites to develop results-oriented wellness programs and to be their partner in creating a community of wellness professionals that connect and grow. With the combined efforts of our La Crosse businesses and the steering committee we celebrate 19,607 employees that have been impacted by this project, with an overall reach of 30% of the La Crosse workforce.“The 21 La Crosse County employers who are involved in the Well City USA initiative, have made a significant and impactful contribution not only to the health and wellbeing of their own employees but to the community as a whole. This prestigious Well City designation elevates La Crosse County to be recognized as an example for other communities across America. The employers’ dedication to the project and the outcome is an outstanding achievement and Wellness Council of Wisconsin is honored to have played a smart part in it.” Marissa Kalkman, Executive Director, WCWI.

Our dream for any project that is committed to achieving Well City USA is to work with business and community leaders to make your workforce one of the healthiest in America. Through this work, we can improve the health of the workforce, reduce health care costs, enhance the image of the region, promote economic development and retain and attract top talent that ultimately promotes the message that we care for our people here in this community.
