Learning Session 1 + Facilitator Guide: Zoom Out

February 20, 2023: Equip Email #1

Description of the Learning/Train-the-Trainer Session:

In this session, Zoom Out, we will exercise the habit of zooming out to a 30,000 foot view to look at wellbeing. We don’t see the world in an unbiased way. Rather, we look at the world through a particular frame that colors our understanding of the world around us. Our observations of other people, of unfolding situations and our reactions to those situations, depend importantly on the frame we put around them. Sue Ashford in her book, The Power of Flexing says it best. “What you see depends on the window from which you look.” We must zoom out to view wellbeing in a wider and more flexible and inclusive frame. The topic of this session and the Facilitator Guide highlights the importance of the iceberg – the underlying issues, root causes, and upstream challenges that are often overlooked or simply not considered at all. This learning session will include references and learning supported by the Socio-Ecological Model and the Social Determinants of Health.

Learning Session 2 + Facilitator Guide: Uncover Mental Models

March 6, 2023 | Equip Email #2

Description of the Learning/Train-the-Trainer Session:

In this session, Uncover Mental Models, we will explore ways to create discussion around the complexities of wellbeing and the potential we have to positively influence wellbeing for employees. Through your participation, you will build your skills to lead experiences of learning, reflection, discussion, and planning for employee wellbeing. The topic of this session and the Facilitator Guide highlights the importance of perspective-taking – the ability to see the perspective of another person and recognize it as truth. This learning session will include references and content supported by the Socio-Ecological Model and the Social Determinants of Health.

Learning Session 3 + Facilitator Guide: Name the Narratives

March 20, 2023 | Equip Email #3

Description of the Learning/Train-the-Trainer Session:

In this session, Name the Narratives, we will continue to build upon creating discussion around the complexities of impacting wellbeing. A narrative is simply described as a story that connects thoughts and actions to values. It’s a way of understanding, presenting, and talking about a situation, experience, or concept that reflects a particular perspective. A public narrative is a perspective that many people share and it reflects deeply held views. All organizations have public narratives of their own and they often shape how and why decisions are made and how things are done. Employee wellbeing may already have a particular public narrative at your organization right now – what is it? Through your participation in this session, you will build skills to identify and name the narratives about employee wellbeing and bring experiences of learning, reflection, discussion, and planning for employee wellbeing that bring those narratives to light. This learning session will include references and content supported by theory and actionable examples.

Learning Session 4 + Facilitator Guide: Connected Communications

April 3, 2023 | Equip Email #4

Description of the Learning/Train-the-Trainer Session:

In this session, you will build on your knowledge of WCWI’s Building Method 3: Vital Conversations, and translate the 5-step approach for growth to support connected communication within your team.  This process will help prepare ideas to create a team that feels psychologically safe and is excited to take positive action steps together. After experiencing the activities and working through the 5-step process, your team will leave feeling clarity around their individual contribution, opportunities for impact, and the collective action of the team.
