Making Sure the WE in Wellness Includes Everyone

Shary Tran, MBA, Director of Diversity & Inclusion, Froedtert Health

Skill Building Session III
3:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Themes: Diversity & Inclusion

Supports: Benchmarks 2 and 5

Description:
Cultural competence is a skill that helps us better connect and understand others.  Health and wellness has different meanings for different populations.  The most effective wellness strategies are the ones that understand the needs of their diverse clients.  Sometimes unconscious bias can get in the way of our best intentions to provide the best services.  This session will help us identify some of these barriers and learn how to better connect across cultures.

Learning Objectives:
  • Understand how to interpret the Multicultural Wellness Wheel to identify the various dimensions of diversity.
  • Identify ways that cultural differences, bias, and dignity and respect impact wellness.
  • Understand ways to improve your cultural competence.
  • Recognize the importance of examining your biases, cultural socialization, and values.

This program is an approved provider of continuing education units (CEUs) through NWI and NCHEC.
